Tampa-- WMNF and BAAMO are at it again - revolutionizing the local music scene and speaking truth to power with a groundbreaking upcoming concert and cd release party. An all-day celebration of free speech will be held at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa, on Saturday, November 4, from noon to midnight. Why yes, that is the Saturday before Election Day, now that you mention it. Over twenty-five local bands and solo performers will perform both original and classic protest songs. We are calling it "a tribute to the Songs of Protest, Dissent & Elect Dysfunction--A pre-election extravaganza of political music"

Many of the bands performing that Saturday are also on the cd, Power to the People: A Tribute To Free Speech. The cd, co-produced by WMNF and BAAMO, has fourteen tracks dedicated to freedom-of speech, thought, idea and action-which seems to some an imperiled value in the age of 'national security'. You can hear sultry, powerful Lorna Bracewell sing Independence Day, Ronny Elliott with his dark look at current politics with I Don't Hear Freedom Ring Anymore, and a fine, rowdy hip-hop cover of Dylan's Masters of War by Addek, and the infectious My Nation's Not Well from world beat band Cold Joon.

The highlight of the cd (and presumably the concert) is the all-star line up rendition of John Lennon's Power to the People featuring local band Auditorium, The Chorus Angleorum, and the singers from more than a dozen bands. It is both a celebration of music and of community.

In addition to a full day of covers and original protest songs, WMNF DJ, long time host of the 60's show will lead the crowd in a Hootenanny between 5 and 8 pm.

Starting at 12:30 and running to 2pm musician Dan Drnach will co-host with WMNF Music Director and DJ, Flee an open mic for up and coming musicians. Sign up begins at Noon.

Proceeds from the Power to the People concert and cd will go to two non-profit organizations that support music and the arts in greater Tampa Bay:

BAAMO (Bay Area Arts & Music Organization) is a volunteer-powered non-profit dedicated to supporting this area's great live, original music and arts scene.

WMNF 88.5 fm is a non-commercial community radio station that celebrates local cultural diversity and is committed to equality, peace and social and economic justice. WMNF provides broadcasts and creates other forums to serve the community by the exposure and sharing of these values.

The Power to the People concert and cd release party will take place from noon to midnight on Saturday, November 4th. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available at Skipper's Smokehouse, WMNF and its ticket outlets, or on line at www.wmnf.org. For more show information, please call Flee at 727-387-7217 (BAAMO) for tickets 813.238.8001 (WMNF). Thanks!
