Fluff Constructivists,

March 24 2006 - Show Spotlight: Frontiers at Dawn

I am very pleased to Spotlight the Fluff Constructivists upcoming show at Covivant this weekend entitled Frontiers at Dawn. While the show runs from March 18th to April 9th, 2006 the reception (including live performance elements) is this Saturday, March 25th from 7pm to 11pm. The Fluff Constructivists are made up of the working minds of Ethan Kruszka and Mikel Bisbee-Durlam.

About one year ago I experienced The Fluffs for the first time at Enter Starbreath (their group show with the Meme-Rider Media Team). I was familiar with the Meme's work and always look forward to their intelligent and fun exhibitions but it was such a nice surprise to get introduced into the world of Fluff Constructing. Examples of the Fluff additions to the show include: a trumpeter warming up at a hundred foot distance lit with a red light, Christian Scientologists set up with a table at the entrance, a car parked in the gallery, a rapper on a constructed pedestal reaching to the ceiling and much more. This in conjunction with the Meme's extensive set up of cracker crafts, merit badges, hypnotic playing cards and much more made this the perfect mix of performance and interactivity.

I also had the pleasure of housing one of Mikel Durlam's solo art outings at Centre Gallery (I was the Director of Operations there from 2005-06) last fall entitled 4,000 mornings, 2 sunsets, and 1 wife (Do not move.): an exhibit of tangible things. It was such a thrill to see the extensive sculptural a/v set-up and experience 2 sunsets every 15 minutes or so during the show duration.

The Fluffs are so prolific in their work that it's not just about the time but the emotive qualities put into the objects used. It is so thoughtful and profound that you are sure to be inspired and transcend.

"The Fluff Constructivists are a collective and collaborative group with a primary function to offer gestures of goodwill." I foresee many good things on the Frontier for the reception this Saturday. The doors open at 7pm at Covivant Gallery, from 8 to 9pm will be the activation of the dioramas and from 9 to 9:45pm will be a music project across the whole gallery entitled fight the night orchestral ensamble.

Covivant Gallery is located at 4906 N. Florida Ave. Tampa, 33603
