Tampa, FL - Local artists will exhibit their original artwork in a juried event at one of Tampa's historic landmarks during a unique art showcase, Clair dé Lune: An Evening of Art Gazing, on Friday, August 19th from 5:30 to 11:00pm.

The show will take place at the recently renovated Main Hall of The Sanctuary, the landmark church turned residential lofts located in the heart of the historic Tampa Heights neighborhood.

Clair dé Lune will be juried by prominent local artist Edgar Sanchez Cumbas, curator and one of the co-founders of Gala Corina, the highly regarded annual local art show.

Event Director and artist Kate Whatley said that the combination of original artworks in a unique new setting would make An Evening of Art Gazing a refreshing alternative to conventional gallery shows.

"The location of the building has always attracted attention because of its unique style and architectural details," Whatley said, "but now the newly restored Main Hall will offer a one-of-a-kind venue for artists to showcase their work."

The idea for Clair dé Lune came about when Whatley heard that property co-owner Russell Versaggi was turning the Main Hall of The Sanctuary into artist studios. Whatley, an emerging artist herself, approached Versaggi, owner of other historic properties in the Tampa Bay area, with the idea to hold an art showcase before the conversion. And as a local arts supporter - Versaggi has previously donated space for Gala Corina - he was immediately on board. The 2002 Gala Corina event was held at The Sanctuary before its award-winning renovation.

"When I heard Russell was planning to turn the Main Hall into studios, I knew he would be interested in participating in Clair dé Lune," she shared. Whatley and Versaggi also share a vision for the space to become an arts and cultural hub in Tampa Heights.

"With the neighborhood growing and changing as it has been over the past year, this transitional time is perfect for calling attention to the emerging neighborhood and to The Sanctuary itself with an exciting artistic event like Clair dé Lune."

With unique works of art available for purchase, music, hors d'oeuvres and an enchanting setting, the show promises to offering a sophisticated Evening of Art Gazing that area art enthusiasts will want to experience.

"It's really exciting for me personally to have the opportunity to create a show like this so early in my career with the help of so many members of the area art community," Whatley commented. "It will be an incredible show."

The Sanctuary is located at 502 East Ross Avenue in Tampa Heights. For more information about Clair dé Lune: An Evening of Art Gazing, visit sanctuarylofts.com/artshow.
