A retrospective exhibition of print work by John F. Russell
Exhibition statement:
John F. Russell will be graduating from the University of South Florida in the spring of 2006 with a BFA focus in printmaking and a minor in electronic music. This exhibition is a retrospective of prints, selected by the artist, made during his time at USF. The print processes represented range from those of intaglio, relief, and monotype press printing as well as those of screen-printing.
The opening week of the show will coincide with his BFA thesis exhibition "How to count to a million using black and white dots" which will be on display at the William and Nancy Oliver Gallery from February 27th though March 3rd.
Artist statement:
John's current 2-dimensional work deals with implied actions in space and the power of the stark and raw. He takes a minimal approach to image making in which the viewer admires the psychological depth of the image as opposed to a photo-realistic quality. The obviousness of the syntax, artist's hand in the mark-making, evokes a universality of experience and purports to revitalize interest in life and contemplation.
